The Idiosyncrasies of Seagulls

I was practicing for my upcoming Auckland Half Marathon, which is scheduled for Oct 29, 2023.
I have a very challenging but quite a promising training calendar to follow; but that is for some other article, on some other day. Though, on a related point, the distance I had to run in the week I was in Paihia, ranged between 5 to 10 kms. And looking at Paihia beach, it appeared that it was the most relevant running circuit for my need. And since I’d never run on a beach, along the coastline; I just quickly jumped at the idea and went ahead.
And then, to my delight I saw a lot of seagulls on the way. New Zealand is home to three species of seagull but the native red-billed seagull — the beady-eyed interloper that will make an appearance on probably your every beach visit, and across the country, is the most common.
As you see more of seagulls, you get more and more fascinated by their idiosyncrasies.
I am going to share a video below, where some attributes of seagulls will come very apparent to you. Like I said, when you start seeing seagulls around you, their beautiful appearance is what mesmerizes you; however when you see more of them, their unique behavioural patterns and mannerism start intriguing you and you really want to read and research more about it.
